Table Mountain Roundabout
Table Mountain Boulevard Roundabout
City of Oroville, CA
NorthStar contracted with the City of Oroville to plan and design a roundabout at the intersection of Table Mountain Boulevard, Nelson Avenue and Cherokee Road in the City of Oroville. Prior to commencing with the roundabout, a full Traffic Feasability Study was conducted to determine what the most appropriate method of traffic control might be for the intersection. Other options included a signal, and right of way acquisitions.
The project also included sewer replacement, storm drainage modifications, decorative roadway enhancements and full roadway improvement.
As part of the plan and design, NorthStar also prepared the CalTrans/FHWA environmental documentation for the project. This included a community impact study, visual impact study, and initial site assessment (ISA), as well as an air quality report, and HPSR/ASR documents. NorthStar headed the team of professionals involved in the project including Melton Design Group (landscape architects), Bender Rosenthal (ROW acquisition), and RTE (roundabout specialists).
NorthStar completed roadway plans including sewer replacement, water line replacement, storm drainage modifications, enhanced lighting, and full roadway and roundabout improvements. Due to the age of the existing sewer line and the anticipated future flows through this line approximately 700’ of 10” sewer line has been proposed to be replace with a new 15” line connecting into the existing manholes at each end. Coordination with all involved utility companies has occurred to avoid any know conflicts between the proposed and existing infrastructure. This site was particularly difficult in relation to the design due to the odd approach angles of Nelson Ave. and Cherokee Road. Despite on-going public opposition, this project has become accepted and liked by residents as both a key visual upgrade and for its traffic moving abilities.
Project Team and City staff coordination proved to be a vital part of this project’s success; working closely to meet all of the design objectives and keep the project on schedule. This project is a key example of how NorthStar can work with a talented design team and dedicated City staff to deliver an exceptional project, on-time and on budget.
