Golden Trout Wilderness School

Our survey team had the privilege of working with the Golden Trout Wilderness School, a Non-profit Educational Center in the Southern Sierra Nevada. Golden Trout Wilderness School needed a design update for their water supply and filtration system, paramount for summer operations. This unique project was not your average day at work as it involved a great camping and hiking opportunity in the Sierra Nevada mountains!
We performed a topographic and aerial survey of the Golden Trout Wilderness Camp, necessary for design updates and overall planning of the campgrounds. The work included target setting; enclosing the campsite control targets for an aerial flyover of the campsite.
With the help of pack mules, our survey team hiked roughly 3 miles to an elevation above 10,000 ft with survey and personal equipment and spent 3 days at the campsite. NorthStar partnered with Point Co., a photogrammetry consultant, to capture high resolution imagery of the campsite. NorthStar also performed a conventional ground survey of the main use areas.
Golden Trout Wilderness School was a unique experience for our surveyors due to its remote location and rugged terrain. This was an amazing opportunity for the survey crew to experience the beauty of the Sierra Nevada and learn about wilderness preservation efforts.
Helping Golden Trout Wilderness School, who’s been operational for over a century, to continue their educational endeavors was a great honor to NorthStar.
